The field of peer support is constantly evolving, and continuing education plays a vital role in helping peer support professionals grow, serve others effectively, and stay connected to best practices. Whether you're newly certified or have years of experience, investing in ongoing learning strengthens your skills, builds confidence, and helps you make an even greater impact in your community.
At the Peer Support Alliance of North Dakota (PSAND), we're committed to providing accessible, relevant, and engaging learning opportunities that support peer professionals throughout every stage of their careers.
Why Continuing Education Is Important
Peer support is built on lived experience, authentic relationships, and a commitment to recovery. While those foundations remain constant, new research, resources, and approaches continue to shape the profession.
Continuing education helps peer support professionals:
Stay informed about emerging best practices
Strengthen communication and peer support skills
Build confidence in challenging situations
Better support individuals with diverse experiences
Expand professional knowledge and leadership abilities
Prevent burnout by learning new strategies for self-care and resilience
Learning doesn't stop after certification—it's an ongoing investment in yourself and the people you serve.
Earn CEUs While Expanding Your Knowledge
Peer support professionals are required to complete continuing education to maintain certification. The good news is that earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) doesn't have to feel like a requirement—it can be an opportunity to explore topics that inspire and strengthen your work.
Whether you're interested in trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practices, cultural humility, ethics, professional boundaries, suicide prevention, or wellness strategies, continuing education allows you to deepen your understanding while meeting certification requirements.
Every training adds another tool to your peer support toolbox.
Stay Current with Best Practices
The needs of individuals, families, and communities continue to evolve. Continuing education ensures peer support professionals remain informed about current approaches that improve outcomes and promote recovery.
By participating in regular training opportunities, you'll gain practical strategies that can be applied immediately in your daily work while staying connected to the values that make peer support unique.
Learning from experienced presenters and fellow peer professionals also provides fresh perspectives that can improve confidence and effectiveness.
Learn Through PSAND's Educational Opportunities
The Peer Support Alliance of North Dakota offers a variety of educational opportunities throughout the year to help peer professionals continue learning and growing.
These opportunities include our FREE monthly Lunch & Learn webinars, each offering 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
Our monthly Lunch & Learns are designed to make continuing education accessible, convenient, and relevant. Held virtually over the lunch hour, these sessions allow peer support professionals to earn 1 free CEU each month while learning from knowledgeable presenters and connecting with peers from across North Dakota.
Learn From Peers Who Understand the Work
One of the greatest benefits of continuing education is learning alongside others who understand the unique role of peer support.
Trainings and webinars create opportunities to:
Share ideas and experiences
Learn from colleagues across North Dakota
Discover new resources
Build professional relationships
Strengthen the statewide peer support community
These connections often become just as valuable as the educational content itself.
